Av In december 2006 when we were visiting my family in Luleå for christmas, we decided to go to Icehotel for a visit. It is located in Kiruna, about 500 km from Luleå so we decided that train was the best way to go there. It took about 4 hours to get there, and when we arrived we had rented a car, since Icehotel is located in Jukkasjärvi, and not possible to reach without a car.
We only visited for the day, since we brought our son and he was only 11 months old so we felt that sleeping in a icy setting was not possible. But only walking around there for a day was really special, it was not that Cold inside, and they keep around -4 degrees celcius no matter how Cold it is on the outside. Below i will showcase some of the photos we took during our visit.
There were so many cool arrangements and art objects inside the hotel. We would definetly like to go back again, but then i would like to sleep over in a Cold room as well :-).
After we visited Icehotel we also stopped by in the tree Church in Kiruna, a really beautiful building. It is made in wood so it is very unusual compared to many other churches i been to, that is often made in stone. We only made a quick stop there but i could really recommend it if you are in Kiruna. Due to the massive project to move the entire city of Kiruna the location will probably be changed.
The visit to Kiruna was really nice, and i would really recommend you to visit Icehotel if you have the chance, it is very unique and fascinating!
