Due to the situation with Covid 19 this years vaccation plan was not possible, so as soon as we got the information that we at least could travel within Sweden, we sat down and looked at our options. We had already decided to celebrate midsummer with my family in Norrbotten, so we got the crazy idea not to stay only in Luleå and its surroundings, but to go ”a bit” further. And ”a bit” for us (used to thousands of kilometers in the car in a vaccation) Abisko was the place we aimed for. Which means about 5 hours extra in the car from Luleå, and once we got this idea in our heads it was difficult to let it go. So we quickly booked a cabin in Abisko turiststation for two nights, and one night in Camp Ripan in Kiruna. We are not going to aim for long hikes this time, only short day trips to see if it is something we even like. So the plan is to see how the weather is and what level of challenge we are up to. But our basic plan is to try to walk to Trollsjön, and also to walk around in Abisko Nationalpark.

So the past days (since all of this was decided) has been spent on inventory of suitable clothes, updating equipment and ensuring that we dont make any rookie mistakes (which we probably will do anyway…). Since we are not only first time hikers, but also first timers on such a long trip with an electric car, the planning is essential when it comes to the vehicle itself, since the supercharge network is not so frequent in the northern part of Sweden. Due to this we cannot deviate so much from the large roads (we need to pass through Gällivare and Töre both ways for example, since we need to stop for charging there).

Below is an image of our planned route. 3880 km, 44 hours in the car.
